veneer
A veneered board is a covered with a sheet of "veneer", a thin sheet of wood obtained by cutting a log. A solid wood board is often covered with a sheet of a more valuable wood to improve its appearance. Veneered boards cost more than laminates. The wood is treated with excellent varnishes of the best makes, but they are unable to completely rule out the risk of damage as a result of continuous leaks, water dripping and steam.
